Hi there,
Welcome to the Upcycle Design Lab. I am so happy that you have stopped by. If you have been following my recent posts then you know that I have been working on several projects to give my craft room a makeover. But, I have also made a lot of smaller projects as well. I hope you will take a little time to check out some of my other trashy treasures.
My project for today came about out of the necessity for more storage space. I was storing a bunch of craft supplies in this shoe organizer. It was functional but kind of ugly.
So I dreamed up an idea for some hidden storage space. As part of this project, I am finishing the whole corner with my cardboard trim and book paper wall.
The process is pretty simple but I still enlisted the hubbies help with some of the power tools. The first step was to mark the wall and cut the drywall. The trickiest part of this step is making sure that the marks are between the wall studs.
Once the hole was cut in the wall I used some cardboard to make the brackets to hold some shelves that were cut from old fence pieces. I used tape to cover the edges of the drywall and then covered the wall with the book paper and mod podge.
I decided to add accent colors to the shelves with some customized stains. Some of the stains matched my paint colors better than the others but I still like the added color. You can find out how to make custom stain colors here in a project that I made for Easter.
Once the shelves were in place I added a mirror with some hinges to hide the storage space.
You can find more details in the video below.
Thanks for stopping by if you would like to check out any of the other projects in this series follow the link here.
Happy Upcycling,
