So it looks like we are going to be stuck with these face masks for awhile and while I am not personally very happy about covering my face with something that makes it harder to breath and fogs up my glasses with every exhale, I figure I should still try to make the best of it.

It’s a good time to sort through your craft stash and see what you have that is fun and mask worthy. In my stash I had some scraps of fabric, t-shirts and pieces of an old sheet all good for mask making. Then I dug out some of my other craft supplies like pens, paint, heat n bond, t-shirt transfer paper and even some beads and fringe all in an effort to make my mask wearing a little bit more fun. And while I still find the masks to be somewhat uncomfortable I can say that sprinkling them with a little creativity makes the whole thing a little more palatable.

This isn’t a mask making tutorial. There are already plenty of those out there but if you are interested in seeing a few silly designs and different techniques to customize your own mask you can check out the video below.

I also came up with what I think is a better alternative to elastic ear straps using t-shirt yarn instead. It’s more versatile, softer and best of all upcycled! If you have never made t-shirt yarn there is also a link to a quick tutorial on how to make yarn from t -shirts at the bottom of this post.
