Upcycled Pie Tins – Origami Gift Box Ornament
Will the real Cindy please stand up.
Do you ever feel like you have multiple personalities? Not of the Sybil variety more like you are just sort of different in different situations and that some situations and people bring out the best in you and others do not. Well any way I do.
Cindy the crafter is probably my truest self. I am an introvert and I can enjoy hours of solitary activities, crafting, reading, walking the dogs, hiking, journaling, blogging. I like creating things and I can get lost in my head for hours just trying to design something useful or pretty out of you name it (Insert name of something disposable here ๐ )
Don’t get me wrong I still need human contact especially with those few I feel closest to. But I am terrible at small talk. I tend to avoid social situations were there are lots of people I don’t already know. I find the disjointed types of conversations that happen at big gatherings (even with my own family) very disconcerting and even annoying. If I am in the middle of telling someone something and they are distracted away for even a moment I generally don’t feel compelled to continue even if there attention returns.
I prefer a one on one lunch date where there can be a true exchange if ideas and information in a setting that allows one to finish ones thoughts.
But most of the worlds human interactions function more like a cocktail party than a two person lunch date and I find that I am required to manage my natural tendencies in a more extroverted and social way.
Which brings us to Cindy the waitress.
Yes, remarkably that is my day job! I spend my days “socializing” if you will with complete strangers! Of course it helps that there is a script to follow and the general expectations of food, drink, exit, repeat. Still at the end of a shift I am often “socially” spent and quite content to see only the hubby and my four furry pets when I get home.
As much as I wish I could spend all my time crafting and let someone else serve food to complete strangers, for now that is not the case. There are, however, some up sides to my job. First I like my co-workers and second I occasionally get my hands on some good trash. ๐ This weeks project, for example, would not have been possible had a co-worker not asked me if I could make something with all of the empty pie tins we had from Thanksgiving Dinner.
It is somewhat remarkable to me that I have allowed my co-workers to know about my trash hording behavior but now that they do it has opened up some avenues for promoting my silly crafting habit. For example I made my co-workers wear my plastic bag costume aprons on Halloween and now I have made this weeks project and part of next weeks project all because someone else suggested that I make something from pie tins.
I guess I really should let Cindy the crafter get out more. ๐
Happy Upcycling,
I cannot find instructions for the origami pie tin ornaments!!
Hi Patti,
The instructions are in the video at the bottom of this post. It is a pretty long tutorial so you might want to make a cup of cocoa before you start. ๐
