“You could make that so easily!” My mother would say. It was one of her mantras. And a staple comment whenever we were shopping for clothes. It’s quite possible that I was never allowed to purchase a skirt for back to school, as that is one of the easiest items to sew.

As adults, my sisters and I have teased my mom for using that phrase so frequently in our childhood. But we also owe her a huge debt of gratitude for training us all to be makers.

Making things has been a joy and a grounding force in my life, and it is a special bonus when other folks appreciate your work enough to pay for it.
