Upcycled Valentine Decorations – Trashy House Tour
How long are you permitted to leave your Christmas lights up outside? Is it acceptable to have decorations up for multiple holidays at the same time? Well, I don’t know the exact standard but true confessions it is mid January and we still have Christmas lights hanging on our house, and being the observant person that you are, you have most likely noted that I also have decorations up for Valentines Day.
Scandalous!!! Right?
Well you may also have deducted that I don’t take too many signals from Martha Stewart or the rest of normal society when it comes to home decor and to be honest a lot of other things, but I digress.
In our defense, (I am reverting back to the Christmas lights thing) it has been cold and snowy here in Colorado and climbing up on a ladder in those conditions is not the first thing we want to do on our days off or in the dark after a work day. I do fear that the weather will only continue to get colder and we will become “one of those people” who leave there Christmas lights up all year.
Ironically we have lived in this house for almost 20 years and this is the first year that we have actually put lights up outside. Therefore, we have no track record to say that we will or won’t take them down by a certain time. Will we become the scourge of the neighborhood? At what point will our neighbors start to commiserate and draw straws to see who has to chide us into taking down our unsightly trimmings?
Only time will answer these questions and I haven’t lost sleep over any of it, so let us move on to Valentines Day shall we? ๐
In the past I have made a couple of Valentine decorations but have never really decorated for this holiday. In fact there were years that I didn’t even decorate for Christmas. But I guess I am getting more sentimental or something because I am already planning decorations for St Patrick’s Day and beyond and it seems to me now that there should always be a little bit of celebration displayed somewhere in the house. Heck I might even turn the Christmas lights back on tonight!!
Actually it is supposed to be pretty nice this weekend so maybe we will get the lights down before spring time. There is always hope.
Happy Upcycling – Holiday Celebrating – or what ever you do that brings you good cheer, do more of it. ๐
Do you happen to have a cut template for the heart box or did you just free hand it? These are all awesome. You are very talented!
