Trash Fashion, Upcycled Projects

Beer and Soda Cans Wedding Bouquet – Trash Fashion – Episode 6

I spend a lot of time happily working on things that most people would never dream of wasting time on, but even I sometimes question the sanity of spending so much time with trash.

This latest project has taken upwards of 40 hours to complete. It required 61 aluminum drink cans and occupied space in multiple locations of our home.

It was even spread out all over our garage for a few days.

The ridiculousness of this project can not be overstated, and to date, it is only rivaled by its counterpart, the wedding dress train.

But there are times I can’t help myself. I have a vision of this thing I believe I can create, and I have to try to make it a reality. You could call it artistic prerogative—or, more accurately, trash-o-distracto-disorder.

Sometimes my projects come together in a pleasant acknowledgment of their purpose. Sometimes, they are disappointing and fall short of my expectations. And sometimes, after hours and hours of labor and uncertainty, they rush together with one wild and explosive bloom.

This is one such project. And this post is not so much a tutorial as it is a tribute to the amazing nature and versatility of the humble aluminum can.

Here is the full tutorial on how to make the roses.

There may be a tutorial on the calla lily soon, but for this post, one merely needs to embrace the scope of which these mundane pieces of trash can become something remarkable, dare I even say amazing.
