Hey there friends.
If you saw my last post you know we recently had quite a bit of snow here. A lot has melted but there are still some big piles of snow here and there. They are dirty and a bit unsightly still it is starting to feel more like spring with each passing day.
Hooray! I say. Hooray!
Today I have a few more projects to share with you using the Draft Top can opener.
But first, because you asked.
Ok nobody really asked but I am a shameless dog mom. And since last week I shared with you the human snow woes of shoveling a thousand pounds of the stuff. I thought this week I would show you the opposite.
I call it canine blizzard joy.
Ok enough of that on with today’s projects.
The first project is a simple Christmas Ornament using the can ring and a small strip of the aluminum can.
To make this project I used the draft top opener to remove the top of the can. If you haven’t seen this tool before you can check out my video review here. Once the lid of the can was off I used a knife to remove the top portion of the can and then used scissors to cut away the rest of the can leaving only the top ring. Next, I used a sharpening stone to file off the last little rough edges. To make the coil I cut a 1/8 inch strip of the leftover can and then used jewelry pliers to roll the aluminum strip into a coil. Once I had the desired amount of coil I added the silver cord to tie the pieces together and make the loop.
The second project was super simple and it might be my favorite of all my aluminum projects. It is definitely the most useful. All I did to make this extra wall storage was remove the tops and put the plastic rings back on. Then I used some command hooks and tacky putty to hold the cans in place. I was planning to spray paint the cans but then I found these cans that already matched the crazy colors that I have in my craft room.
And my last project is most certainly the craziest. Since I had these fun colored cans and I always need more light in my craft room I decided to make this silly lamp. You can get more details on how to make the lantern shapes as well as detailed instructions for the other two projects in the video below.
Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope to see you again soon.
Happy Upcycling,
