Simple two-ingredient coffee texture paint

I love this simple texture paint. It sticks to most surfaces, and I always have the ingredients to quickly whip up a batch when needed. Plus, I can make it with a little or a lot of texture to suit my needs for each individual project.

All you need for this texture paint is high-quality white primer paint. If you have done any home projects, you likely have some leftover paint stashed in your basement or garage. You also need some day-old coffee grounds. However, if you are not a coffee drinker, you undoubtedly know someone who would be happy to save you some.

And so, in my book, this paint qualifies as practically free and definitely repurposed.

To mix the paint, pour your estimated amount into an empty container. I prefer using tin cans, but any container will do. Then simply add some coffee grounds to achieve your desired texture.

The second coat of your mixture can also be added for more coverage. Allow the first coat to dry thoroughly before adding additional paint.

Once the paint is dry, you will want to remove the loose parts of the texture. I do this by rubbing my hands over the entire surface. You will want to wear gloves for this step and have something to catch all the loose material. I rub pretty hard as I want my remaining texture to be securely attached to my project. Don’t worry; most of the texture will remain, and this step should not affect the look of the texture very much.

Check out this video for more information about adding a glue fixative to your texture paint.

Once the loose texture has been removed, you can add acrylic paint for color or a sealer to finish with the natural color.

Thanks for stopping by.
